The “Research Lab of Advanced, Composite, Nano Materials & Nanotechnology”, R-Nano is situated at the School of Chemical Engineering (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). It was established in 2007; its research group has extensive experience in Designing, Production and Characterization of Advanced-, Composite- and Nano- Materials.
The R-Nano team is manned by chemical, mechanical and metallurgical engineers, physicists, and chemists, specialized in materials research and innovation, as well as experienced technicians. R-Nano brings together a multidisciplinar research team, comprised of experienced staff (including faculty members, senior researchers, post doctoral researchers and PhD students), equipped with extensive facilities for materials production, process and characterization.
The core expertise of the RNano research team includes: synthesis of carbon nanotubes, development of advanced anticorrosive coating systems reinforced with various types of nanocontainers with self-responsive ability, electrochemical characterization and elucidation of corrosion behaviour and mechanisms, nano-/micro- mechanical and tribological characterization.
Services: advanced materials processing and characterization, 3d printing, synthesis of ceramic nano- powders through chemical methods, coating techniques, development of carbon based materials with tailored properties, social & safety implications of nanotechnology, technological assessment and sustainability studies in nanotechnology, corrosion protection, engineering simulation and mathematical modeling.

The laboratory has been actively involved in research during the past 13 years, enhancing its infrastructure and producing a large volume of peer reviewed scientific publications.
In collaboration with the Industrial Liaison Office of the National Technical University, the R-Nano offers specialized services to private enterprises and public organizations, relevant to laboratory testing and in-situ testing of various structural materials.

Educational activities in the Laboratory include laboratory exercises and courses within the framework of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses.
Through its participation in various research and innovation projects and initiatives, R-Nano has developed a dense network of collaborating researchers and research performing organisations in Greece and abroad.
RNano personnel is comprised of 4 faculty members, 10 Post Doctoral Researchers, over 10 Researchers and Technicians, as well as PhD, post-graduate and under-graduate students carrying out their MSc or Bachelor thesis.
