Project MARIPAINTS was funded by the Hellenic and European Regional Development Funds under the Action “Synergasia (Cooperation) 2011: Partnerships of Production and Research Institutions in Focused Research and Technology Sectors. The aim of the project was to develop new self-healing marine paints with anticorrosion and antifouling properties for ships’ hulls by incorporating:

1) copper oxide nanocontainers loaded with natural antifoulants in topcoat formulations,

2) nanocontainers loaded with corrosion inhibitors and self-healing inducers in primer formulations

3) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) which can undergo surface modification to form nanocomposites with materials for biofouling prevention
