Metallic Materials


Course Description

Metallic materials (metals and alloys) constitute a category of technical materials that present high strength (also deform easily) and therefore are applied extensively in construction (automotive, aeronautics, aerospace, building industry, etc.). Today, the choice of a suitable metal for even a simple structure is considered as complicated due to the variety of available technical materials, and may depend on: the type of build-application, operating conditions (natural environment, human resources), operational use, and economic factor. Τhe design of an application that requires use of metallic materials with desired properties is determined by the structure of the material (final choice). The aim of this course is to introduce the student to the fundamental principles, structure and properties (characterization) of metallic materials.
